MEETING DATE: August 9, 2006

CALL TO ORDER: 7:30 am

PREVIOUS MEETING MINUTES: Minutes approved as read.

SECRETARY'S REPORT
New member David Holleran needs orientation and induction.

Constance Ober and Jon Ober resigned due to business pressures.

COMMUNICATIONS
Georg handed over to Ed a John McKone Leadership Plan and Procedures Manual.

Membership seminar this Saturday in Fredericks. No one can attend.

TREASURER'S REPORT
None (Treasurer absent)

COMMITTEE REPORTS
September 16 Stafford Foundation District Conference/banquet. Becky, Ed and Bill are going. Becky will register for all.

Check for $1900 mailed to Foundation for Mathews sustaining members (17).

Becky suggested pooling club donations for PHF matching funds.

990EZ filed for 2004 and 2005. Much discussion ensued. Bottom line is we are now straight thanks to Bill and Becky. Suggested Board look at the books each quarter. Monthly treasurers report should include sustaining member report. 

Becky stressed that we need to make sure board members are competent to do the job for which they are being nominated. Treasurer should start transition training with treasurer-elect in March. 

Potential board members need to understand that they may be held financially responsible for club's debts. If the club were incorporated this would not be the case. Discussion ensued about incorporation to protect board members. A motion was made to incorporate the Mathews Rotary Club. Jim Hutchins will be asked to handle the incorporation. 

UNFINISHED BUSINESS
Wine Tasting: Each member is expected to sell, or otherwise be responsible for 4 tickets, $25 per ticket. Tickets will be available at tomorrow's meeting. String trio is being lined up, cost appx $125; Kelsick Gardens sponsoring wine again.

Habitat house is under roof. A workday will be scheduled when we're ready. Date will be established at tomorrow’s meeting.

A motion carried to grant John Deputy permanent Honorary Member status.

Fresh Start needs volunteers. Thanks to Mike, Jim Hutchins and Ralph for donating and cooking food for this event.

A District Simplified Grant request for $2000 has been submitted.

NEW BUSINESS
Market Days involvement: potato gun and seafood wraps. Mike Richards buys prizes (+/-$100), make sure we have volunteers. Ralph is handling food.

Ed will ask Preston about using the Islander for potato gun contest in October.

A reminder to transfer no less than $500 Happy Dollars to Mathews Community Foundation for scholarships.

October 12 social at Boatel, no morning meeting. Members are to bring hors d’oeuvres.
