MEETING DATE: December 14, 2005 IN ATTENDANCE: Georg Kidd, Ed Davis, Rodney Rhodes, Steve Whiteway, Bill Higdon, John Dayton, Jim Richards, Bobbi McElroyCALL TO ORDER: 7:30 am PREVIOUS MEETING MINUTES: November 12 Trash collection yielded 25+ bags. Minutes approved as amended. SECRETARY'S REPORT
Tom Jarrett and Carol Pruitt need to be inducted and initiated. Carol will delay active membership until January. Richard Bozung would like to join in spring; Bobbi will sponsor him. Status of letter to inactive members was discussed again. Bobbi will send letter to Howard Hudgins, Jim Sease, Preston Jenkins and Brian Walters. Ernie Warriner reminded us that elections are due in December. Bobbi will send a Rotary get well card to Mrs. District Governor Norma McKone for her knee surgery. TREASURER'S REPORT Bill needs Request for Funds form completed for expenditures. He will give copies to committee chairs. Treasurer's report accepted as presented. COMMITTEE REPORTS Scholarship checks will be presented to recipients at January meeting. Club members will be reminded to be on their best behavior during that meeting. It was suggested that MemberCare, a sub-committee of the Club Service Committee, be formed to check on absent and/or ill members. UNFINISHED BUSINESS Telephone tree revisited. Georg will add telephone number for 99.1 WXGM, plus rules for closure. Williams Wharf photo op on Thursday, December 15 after meeting; all club members invited. Press release should include information about where to send donations. Kudos given again to Jim Richards for the Membership Directory. Extra copies available for $10. The December work day for Habitat for Humanity is postponed until possibly January. Jim Richards will keep us updated. Candlelight Holiday Parade participation was best yet; the parade and floats were fabulous...gets better every year. NEW BUSINESS Dave Burns asked about the future of Wine Tasting event. If club wants to continue on a yearly basis, he will head it up and would like to get started now for the 2006 event. The possibility of Mathews Rotary Club sponsoring a candidate debate was discussed. It was decided to refer the idea to the Community Service Committee for research. The program and guest speaker for Charter Night, February 25, was discussed. The Club seemed to like not having a formal speaker. It was suggested that a "Club Year in Review" might be a good idea. Members will be asked to provide any photos they may have from Club activities. District officials will be invited and asked to induct new members; Georg will ask Jay which district dignitaries should be included.
